High School Teacher

I have taught high school mathematics at Champion Christian School since 1996. The 2001-02 school year was my first full-time year. I have a B. A. in mathematics from Susquehanna University and received my teaching certificate through Seton Hill College.

I live in Acme in the woods with my husband, Keith. We have 3 adult sons, all married. We are the grandparents of two. We enjoy the outdoors and are actively involved in our church, Bethel Lutheran in Latrobe. I am on many committees there and have taught Sunday School since 1992. Even though we are empty nesters, Keith and I are kept very busy!

The Lord led me here to CCS through the internet. We had never heard of the center until we began looking for an internet provider. Then when I was ready to come back to the work force, Champion was looking for a part-time mathematics teacher. I felt that the Spirit was leading me here. I love working with the staff and students here. It's a special group of people, and my life has been truly enriched here.

Some Thoughts:

Teaching the next generation is not only important; it is commanded to us. (Deut.4:9) We need to carefully and joyfully teach our children the absolute truth about who made them and who loves them and who wants to be their savior. It is a great privilege to be a part of this commission.

The way we live our lives, the way we view ourselves, and the way we view others are a direct product of our worldview. (what we believe) Schools are being asked to shape the behaviors and ethics of their students which is an impossible task without being able to teach them about absolute truth and absolute authority. Not knowing God has repercussions in all areas of life. Even limiting God to “only on Sunday” or “not in my every-day life” has a consequence for our lives. The news that God reigns over our whole lives is so valuable that no child should be without that knowledge.

My speciality is the field of mathematics and science. I believe that God has placed in us a curiosity and ability to explore the world He created in order to find Him. We use mathematics to see the order and beauty of the created world and of our own minds created in his image. As the great mathematician Johannes Kepler said, studying mathematics is like “thinking God’s thoughts after Him”. These are exciting ideas to me and I love sharing this with my students who also seem to love hearing them.
