It is hard to keep up with all of the issues and question we are confronted with these days. This series has a focus on questions raised by science and is built around just the kinds of questions parents might get asked by curious children. Trying to balance science and faith can be daunting for many and this series will help with answering many of the questions. Common questions like, “How did dinosaurs fit into the Ark? and “Where does the ice age fit? or “What is radioisotope dating?” are dealt with by contributing scientists. I would say that this series is written clearly and understandably for most everyone. Yet it deals with some issues that we as believers need to face and have a grasp of if we are to live out our faith in this culture. Or even if our children are just fascinated by dinosaurs.

Underneath the science behind all of these questions is the foundation of the authority and truthfulness of Scripture. All of the questions help us see how the responses reveal the accuracy and power of God’s Word. Take time to read through this series. You will find it worthwhile!

Even though I have always served in Methodist churches I have found that there is always an interest in the doctrine of predestination and free will. Sproul brings his reformed view to the question and in his usual clear and interesting style looks at the relationship of God’s sovereignty and our free will. How are the two related?
Drawing on classical reformed thought, and people like Jonathan Edwards who have dealt with this issue in the past, R.C. helps us work through the questions surrounding this issue and shows that our freedom does not remove God’s sovereignty and in fact depends upon it. Wherever you may stand on this issue this book is helpful to clarify the issues and help us look at what Scripture actually says to help us find our way. The classic portions of Scripture that bring us to this debate are looked at in this book and a few passage that you might not have thought about. You may think this question is all just abstract theology. But if we do not know how God saves people how will we do evangelism? Borrow this book and grow in your faith.

It is good to find in the champion Library Tolkien’s work, The Children of Hurin. If you like Tolkien’s world then this is an important part of the history of Middle Earth. Be aware that you will not find familiar characters since this story takes place a long time before The Lord of the Rings. But you will find, a dragon, orcs, elves, and humans ready to do battle with Morgoth, the original source of evil in the world.
The story takes place in the land of Beleriand: a place that was located along the coast north of what we think of as middle earth. It lies beyond even the Grey Havens. It was a region that was swept under the sea during the great upheaval at the end of the First Age of the World.
We first hear of Hurin in The Silmarillion. He does battle with, and is captured by, Morgoth. This story is the tale of his children Turin and Nienor as they stand against the evil attempting to rule Middle earth and as they live through their own flaws.
If you are a Tolkien fan you will find this book fascinating. If you are not already a fan this is a good story in which to lose yourself, though you may have a bit of a hard time dealing with all the new names of people and places.
